Spain is the longest overland route we run and the one where the hardest conversation is about what to take rather than how to take it. A Hampshire house is furnished for a damp, cool climate. A good proportion of that furniture has no business crossing a continent to sit in an Andalucian summer.
Retirements to the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol dominate. Madrid and Barcelona are work moves and behave quite differently.

The route out of the county
M3 or A34 to the M25, round to the M20 and the Eurotunnel shuttle at Folkestone. For Spain the shuttle is almost always the right call: the vehicle has the whole of France in front of it and the driver needs the hours intact rather than spent on a ferry deck.
From Calais the A26 and A10 run south past Paris and Tours to Bordeaux, then the A63 to the border at Irún. From there the AP-1 and AP-68 head towards Madrid, or the coastal AP-7 continues through Catalonia and down the Mediterranean side to Valencia, Alicante and Murcia. For Andalucía the run continues south from Madrid on the A-4.

Customs and paperwork
Spain applies the same principle as France with considerably more paperwork attached. Household goods enter free of duty under transfer of residence relief, but Spanish customs is particular about the inventory and about the applicant's registration status, and the sequence has to be right before the vehicle is loaded.

What to take and what to leave
This is the route where we are most likely to talk you out of moving something. Waxed and oiled furniture, anything with a glued veneer, and soft furnishings chosen for an English winter all behave differently in a Mediterranean summer. Paying to move a piece across a continent so that it can warp in its first August is a poor trade, and we will say so at survey.
The second thing is access, and it will feel familiar to anyone moving from rural Hampshire. Costa urbanisations are built around cars: narrow final approaches, speed humps and gated entries that a large vehicle cannot pass. Where that is the case we shuttle with something smaller, planned and priced in advance.
The third is the NIE. Almost nothing else can proceed until it exists, the relief included, and it is the item people leave latest. If you are reading this and do not have one, that is today's job rather than next month's.

01 How long does a Hampshire to Spain move take?
It depends on the destination, whether the load has a dedicated vehicle or shares one, and how the border and clearance are running at the time. Your written quote carries an estimated window for your actual route rather than a headline figure, because a headline figure would be invented.
02 Is a shared load worth it?
For anything short of a full house, usually. Your goods travel with other consignments going the same way, which brings the cost down and means departure waits for the vehicle to fill. If your dates are rigid, take a dedicated vehicle.
03 Should we take all our furniture?
Probably not, and we would rather have that conversation at survey than take your money to move something unsuitable. Climate, fittings and Spanish room proportions all argue for taking less than you think.
04 Do I need an NIE before you can move me?
You need it for the customs relief, so effectively yes. Goods can be collected and held here while the application runs, which is how most of these jobs are sequenced, but nothing clears Spanish customs without it.
05 Can you deliver to the Balearics?
Yes, with a ferry leg from the mainland. It is an additional stage that has to be booked into the plan rather than added at the end, so say at enquiry if the destination is one of the islands.
06 What if the Spanish purchase falls through?
Your goods stay in Hampshire, listed and held, until the next one completes. It happens often enough on Spanish purchases that we treat holding as part of the normal plan rather than as a contingency.
